ACH/DAS Faurecia Workers at the Saline, MI Plant
A Word about the voting process..........
Once again you ACH/DAS dues paying members are being asked to vote on a contract. I'm sure you will hear things said like "you can trust us, we're looking out for you" and "we would never let you accept less then you already had". Let's review some history here for you. When you were asked to vote to not be a Visteon worker you won the title of ACH and capped pay. No one mentioned the cap until afterwards. No vacation and no medical or personnel time. Then when included in a national contract you were told of guaranteed preferential hire rights, but not the other ways it could be taken from you. Or the way you were to be used to insure that profit and quality would be built in for the new buyer . Your life was part of the terms of the sale.
Now the question of will you buy more of the b.s. is in front of you. You were told to your face that nothing would change for you if you accepted employment with DAS. The union leadership told you of the dissolve of ACH at this location and that your medical insurance would be at your expense, but failed to let you know that your rights under the Warren Act had been violated. It took the death of our sister Nancy Swisher to point out that the death benefits had also disappeared . So much for "nothing will change". For this family a lot changed. She worked for this company for 5 years and didn't even deserve $3000 in death . Her family knew firsthand how all of this affected her.
So you see, it's not so much in what they tell you and ask you to decide on the same day as what is not said! If the paper says they will give you something Hooray! Now ask how many other pages are written of conditions that will take this away. And who else has a right control your choice? And how many other companies can the UAW subcontract you out to? Is it dues you pay or a fee for finding you employment?
If you can still vote on this and don't need to hear any more, please think about it. You need to make sure that this does not limit any of the rights you now have. What a surprise if this contract actually gave you some you didn't have, like a better attendance policy!
Just because a contract is brought before you doesn't mean you have to accept it. If more members had voted no in the past this second tier situation would not exist today. Accept nothing less then what you want. If this does not meet the needs of the membership and it is voted down then the negotiating team has to do a better job. Yes there is the issue of the new Right to Work laws. The simple fact is ,if you want this union to represent you , they need to know that you will not accept anything that is thrown your way. If you are willing to pay union dues then they need to step up and do what is right for you.

This letter is to notify interested workers of the ACH Holding Corp. of intent by the LAWS group to provide information and advocacy assistance concerning the rights promised to you. You may check out the webpage disputethis.org if you need further info.
We have been contacted by several worksites and the story seems to be a reoccurring one, the lies and constantly changing rules are not what you deserve or what you pay dues for. If you are seeking answers or solutions please show up when a meeting is scheduled for you. The person handing this letter to you will have the details of upcoming meetings.
We have filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board concerning the Saline location and will continue to seek any means necessary to establish your value as workers, not second class dues payers.
Please understand, we mean to help you stand up for yourselves and find solutions. That means you just have to do the standing up.
